Bob White - Chief of Go-Giver Tribe
About This Blog and the Go-Givers Tribe
We named our tribe after reading “The Go-Givers” by Bob Burg and John David Mann. We pledge to uphold the laws set forth in the book;
The Five Laws Of Giving.
1. The Law Of Value. Your TRUE wealth is determined by how much MORE you give in value than you take in payment.
2. The Law Of Compensation. Your income is determined by how many people you SERVE, and how well you SERVE THEM.
3. The Law Of Influence. Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests FIRST.
4. The Law Of Authenticity. The most valuable gift you have to offer is YOURSELF.
5. The Law Of Receptivity. The key to effective giving is to stay OPEN TO RECEIVING.
About Me
Born and raised in the Finger Lakes Region of New York state; fortunate to grow up in the 1950′s – the best decade of the 20th century – my high school days were remarkably similar to “Happy Days” and I was Richie
Following college – Colgate University, Hamilton, NY and the US Army – Food Inspector, Nuremberg, Germany I joined the corporate world with IBM Corporation in Kingston, NY as a programmer trainee in a 6 months training program.
I progressed from Graphics Programmer(have been in interactive computing my entire career), became a Systems Engineer, Chicago, IL, then Datapoint Corporation, Chicago – Branch Systems Manager and Datapoint Corporate, San Antonio, TX – Director of Marketing Support
Note: I had completed 2/3 of my MBA at the U. of Chicago but was unable to complete it as the corporate world placed a very heavy workload upon me – so I have an “MB” – the rest of my “masters” and then some came by being on the “bleeding edge” of computer technology
- Datapoint invented the local area network in 1976(ARCnet) and forever changed the computing world as we knew it.
At this point I declared myself unemployable and formed TurnKey Systems, Inc – San Antonio and Corpus Christi branches. We sold Datapoint Computer networks and provided our customers installation, systems & custom applications software, training and support services. We became recognized as leaders in providing professional training, documentation and customer support.
And then, all the wheels came off … the Texas recession of the mid 1980′s, caused by plummeting oil prices resulted in drilling screeching to a halt and producing wells capped to stem the losses.
The Texas economy was in freefall for several years. My company shrunk from 20 to 5 employees very quickly and finally closed our doors in 1986 – but I retained my sense of humor – we appeared in bankruptcy court the same day as former Texas governor John Connolly so we crashed in “good company”.
The rest of the 1980′s and most of the ’90′s were spent in consulting roles – consulting jobs were obtained by being willing to work cheaper, travel farther and clean up bigger messes than the competition – some of my notable clients were – New Jersey Bell Telephone, Simon & Schuster-NY, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines – Miami, FL (the perks were wonderful
)
The end of the 90′s brought “Y2K” panic and some consulting work but ended with a fizzle as corporate America learned it was less expensive to replace old software with new and expanded network and Internet systems – birth of the next computer era.
I received a grant to attend SMU’s technical school and become both an MCSE(Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) and then an MCT – Microsoft Certified Trainer. This phase of my “career” was shortlived as the Internet Marketing Revolution began; entrepreeuring oppotunities sprung up everywhere and in many industries – working from home and owning your own business first became desirable and in the last few years a necessity, myself included.
I have now evolved into Social Media marketing, formed the Go-Givers Tribe using Facebook and BobWhiteBlog as my “hubsites”; our mission is to provide profeesional training and support by expanding our of people who come to know, like and trust us – with an emphasis on providing quality services to the over 40 baby boomers and seniors(or anyone else who doesn’t “get it” with self-teaching methods.
The Present – Yesterday is History and tomorrow is a Mystery – we have only today – that’s why we call it the “Present”.
I have learned to live in the present – and carpe diem has become my motto – living each day to the max – physically, mentally and spiritually – we live in troubled economic times – and history shows that tough times create incredible opportunities.
I have created my blog to convey my thoughts, knowledge and ideas to others; and have created the Go-Givers Tribe to unite like minded individuals into a like minded community where helping others to obtain what they want, to exceed their expectations and to create an environment where people know, love and trust one another is my idea of heaven on earth.
